Definition and causes
Another known effect of Botulinum toxin is temporary blocking cholinergic stimulation of apocrine sweat glands, thereby it can be used to reduce sweating in the underarms, palms of hands and soles of the feet. Localised excessive sweating often has unknown cause and can be treated with Botulinum toxin. Excessive generalised sweating could be due to an underlying health condition such as gout and hypothyroidism.
Treatment:
Injections with Botulinum toxin can be used to reduce sweat production in defined areas by up to 90%.
Alternative treatment options include use of stronger antiperspirants, medical management of any underlying health condition and surgical removal of sweat gland.
No treatment is always an option, based on personal choice and treatment suitability
